Yesterday (24th of September) was Social Media Week around the world, Yay! Social Media Week is (quoting from Social Media Week’s Website):

Social Media Week (SMW) is a global platform that connects people, content, and conversation around emerging trends in social and mobile media. Delivered primarily through a network of internationally hosted biannual conferences and online through social and mobile media, Social Media Week brings hundreds of thousands of people together every year through learning experiences that aim to advance our understanding of social media’s role in society.”

The for the first time ever Aberdeen took part in Social Media Week in conjunction with Glasgow, more information on the day can found here. It was a fantastic day with speakers from all across Aberdeen who covered a vast array of topics. We also had a wonderful audience participation from everyone who came along to Freelance World’s Creative Space, where free cake was available with all donations going to MacMillan Cancer Support.

So, I was asked to talk about Blogging and it’s role to play in terms of social media and how it can help you as a business and as a individual. I plan to write a blog post about all the points I spoke about in my talk, as well as upload the video footage. I really enjoyed speaking to the audience and I would like to congratulate and commend all the speakers form yesterday, everyone who took part as a audience member or a speaker can and should feel free proud for helping launch what could become a very important annual event.

I would like to thank Scott Graham for forcing me to do a dry run with him before hand and all the advice he gave me; I wasn’t sure on performing the dry run but it payed off big time! I’d also like to thank (the academy…I’m kidding!) all the support I received from everyone online, the “fan boy” groups who watched my talk online through the live stream and Freelance World & Creative Space themselves for inviting me to speak at the event.

I hope to continue to be part of any future Social Media Week events in Scotland and the U.K and I recommend anyone and everyone to seriously consider becoming involved in Social Media Week in the future. It’s a great experience and a great way to share any knowledge you have on such an important part of the Internet and today’s society.
